Iranian political analyst Emad Abshenas said on a December 27, 2022 show on Al-Hurra TV (U.S.) Iran has not yet retaliated for Israeli airstrikes against Iranian targets in Syria because it is waiting for "permission" from the Syrian regime. He also said that Iran supplies weapons to Hizbullah, Gaza, and Palestinians in the West Bank, and that Israel is therefore surrounded by the "resistance" and by Iran's allies. Abshenas said that if Israel "makes a mistake" and attacks inside Iran, Iran will retaliate directly against Israel.
Emad Abshenas: "Iran has supplied many weapons to Hizbullah in Lebanon, and Hizbullah has not made the details public. Today, the supply of weapons to Hizbullah and the resistance continues in full swing. An [Israeli] attack, or two, ten, or even 100 will not stop this supply. The supply is too significant for Israel to stop it with a few airstrikes.
"Even though Gaza is under siege from all directions, we can see that Iran... Pardon? We can see that Iran is sending them weapons. Iran is smuggling weapons [into Gaza] very easily. If Israel could stop Iran, maybe it would at least be able to stop the weapons shipments to Gaza. Today, weapons are even sent to the West Bank.
"Today, Israel is besieged by the resistance and Iran's allies. It is possible that Iran is waiting for the right time [to retaliate], and the right time has not come yet.
"If Israel made a mistake and attacked inside Iran, Iran will definitely retaliate inside Israel. However, today Israel is attacking on Syrian soil, so Iran is waiting for the Syrian government and military to give it permission to retaliate. So far, the Syrian military and government have not decided to retaliate against Israel, so Iran cannot retaliate from Syrian soil."
