Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari: America’s Founding Fathers Would Not Make "Stupid Decisions" Like Trump's Jerusalem Decision

Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari said that U.S. President Donald Trump's Jerusalem decision was "another stupid decision in the history of America." The Americans, he said, should reexamine the conduct of their Founding Fathers, who "would not make stupid decisions like this." He made the remarks in an interview on Turkey's TRT Arabic TV on May 6.

Ibrahim Al-Jaafari: "[Trump's Jerusalem decision] is another stupid decision in the history of America. It is a provocation against the Islamic world, which constitutes the largest demographic bloc in the world today – 1.75 billion people living in some 57 countries, and owning two-thirds of the world's oil reserves. The U.S. should have examined this from a strategic perspective, and should have taken into consideration its economic and political interests, as well as other strategic interests. This sprawling nation is not a nation of war, but a nation of peace. It is not a nation of fear and terror, but a nation of security. The [Muslims] are the victims of terrorism. Terrorism is massacring us. We, the Muslims, are the victims of terrorism. [Trump] should not have taken this measure. Today, the world lives in democracy, and the Americans should reexamine the founders of the U.S. democracy and state, and see how they acted. John Adams, and before him, George Washington, Jefferson, and Hamilton... The Americans should reexamine the principles of the revolution. They should reexamine the Philadelphia pact [U.S. Constitution]. Those people would not make stupid decisions like this. This is a stupid decision that America should not have made."
