In a video posted on the Internet on March 23, ISIS presents a Christian who was captured by ISIS in Syria. The man says to the camera that he converted to Islam "out of conviction" and that he was "not forced to convert." He is then shown sharing a meal with his captors and reciting the Shahada.
Following are excerpts:
ISIS militant: This is a message to the Christians who are watching, and especially to the Assyrians captured in the recent raid, by the soldiers of the Islamic State. [I address the Christians] mobilized by the Jews and the servants of the Cross, who claimed that the Islamic State and its soldiers seek to kill and slaughter. We say to them: Listen to what we have to say and not to what is said about us. The best example is this man here. Just like you, he was an armed Christian once. We captured him before the raid, and he converted among us.

What would you like to say to your people, who are watching us?

Newly converted Assyrian: I would like to tell my people and to all the Christians that I have converted to Islam and become one of them. If only all the Christians would convert to Islam, rather than be a polytheist. I wish they would join the religion of Islam.

ISIS militant: Did you convert to Islam out of conviction, or were you forced to do so?
Newly converted Assyrian: I converted out of conviction. I was not forced to convert.
ISIS militant: So you are convinced that this is the true religion?
Newly converted Assyrian: Yes, it is. I am sure of this. I have chosen this path.

I attest that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger.
ISIS militant: Say: "Allah Akbar!"
