Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a December 22, 2024, address aired on Channel 1 (Iran), stated that there is a "Zionist official" who pretends to be victorious while killing over 40,000 women and children in Gaza, yet failing to achieve his war objectives of destroying Hamas and freeing the hostages held in Gaza. Khamenei pointed out that despite eliminating someone as "great" as Hassan Nasrallah, Hizbullah remains "alive," along with Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. He declared, "You have not won, you have been defeated."
Khamenei also rejected the notion that Iran uses regional proxy forces, stating that if Iran decides to take action, it will do so directly. He emphasized that there are "honorable and faithful men" in Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon, and Palestine, fighting "on their own behalf" against the "cursed Zionist regime." He stated: "Inshallah, we will remove this regime from the region."
Regarding Syria, Khamenei said that a "group of rioters," with foreign support, exploited Syria's weakness and threw the country into chaos. He predicted that an "honorable" group would emerge in Syria to confront those responsible for the insecurity, as Syrian youth now have "nothing to lose." The son of Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Mohammad Mahdi Nasrallah, attended the address.
Ali Khamenei: "A Zionist official has pretended to have been victorious.

"You pitiful man, how are you victorious? Were you victorious in Gaza? Is it a victory to kill over 40,000 women and children with bombs, but fail to achieve even one of your initially declared objectives? Have you destroyed Hamas or freed your prisoners from Gaza? You wanted to destroy Hizbullah, so you killed someone as great as the martyr Hassan Nasrallah, but have you managed to eliminate Hizbullah? Hizbullah, the Palestinian resistance, Hamas and the [Islamic] Jihad are all alive. You have not won, you have been defeated.

"[The enemies] constantly say that the Islamic Republic has lost its proxy forces in the region. This is yet another mistake. The Islamic Republic does not have proxy forces.

"If we decide to take action one day, we will not need proxy forces.

"There are honorable and faithful men in Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, and in the near future in Syria, inshallah, they will emerge. They are fighting on their own behalf against oppression and crimes, against the imposed cursed Zionist regime. We will also fight against it. Inshallah, we will remove this regime from the region.

"A group of rioters, with the help and planning of foreign governments, managed to exploit Syria's internal weaknesses, and hurl the country into instability and chaos.

"I predict an emergence of an honorable and strong group in Syria. The Syrian youth have nothing left to lose. Their universities, schools, homes, streets, and lives are filled with insecurity. What are they supposed to do? They must stand firmly against those who orchestrated and perpetrated this insecurity and inshallah overcome them."
