In a video from 2015 that has resurfaced on January 4, 2025, Syria’s new Minister of Justice Shadi Al-Waisi is seen overseeing the execution of a woman who was accused of prostitution. Al-Waisi reads out the woman’s sentence from a shari'a court. The execution was redacted from this video.
Shadi Al-Waisi: "This is a shari'a court. In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate. Blessed be Allah, the Lord of the Universe.

"Allah says [in the Quran]: 'The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and sow corruption upon the land, is that they should be killed, be crucified, or have their hands and feet cut from alternate sides, or be banished from the land.' Brothers, it has been proved with unequivocal proof and legally admissible shari'a-based evidence that this woman – may Allah forgive her – has engaged in sowing corruption upon the land through adultery. This shari'a-based ruling has been confirmed by a group of honorable ulema brothers, after it has been proven before them that she engaged in prostitution.
