Dr. Yassin Khatib, Islamic Law Professor at Um Al-Qura University in Saudi Arabia, appeared on a Q&A program on the religious channel Al-Majd. In response to a viewer's question, Dr. Khatib predicted the collapse of the US. Following is a verbatim translation of excerpts from Dr. Khatib's comments:
Caller: In the past we knew that America was a non-religious country, and did not set religious goals in its relationships and wars. But now, the war between them and us is religious and there is a great power disparity between them and us. They have nuclear power. If we had it, we might have destroyed America within minutes.
Dr. Yassin Al-Khatib: Yes.
Caller: Is it reasonable that we face them now with operations that are very few and do not affect them and thus awaken their enmity towards us in these difficult circumstances? What do you think, Sheikh?
Dr. Yassin Al-Khatib: Although the Muslims were a minority, they destroyed the Persian Empire. They were a minority, but they destroyed the Byzantine Empire. What benefit did the (nuclear) weapon bring them in Falluja? What benefit did the planes they used to bomb with bring? Even though they used forbidden weapons…
True, the cluster bombs that they used and destroyed people, what benefit did it bring them? This is defeatism. Defeatism. A reasonable person does not think this way. The honor, blood, property and mostly the fact that they entered the country (i.e. Iraq)… These make it every Muslim's duty to go out against them, not only the Iraqis. This is every Muslim's duty. Jihad today has become an individual duty that applies to each and every Muslim. It is forbidden for a person to remain silent… Let alone if someone enters your country and your home… Is it conceivable that you would welcome him and say that he has come and has lethal weapons so I will leave him to do as he wishes… When the Muslims fought in Afghanistan they destroyed the Soviet Union, which was a superpower. It collapsed, yes or no?

Sheikh Yassin Al-Khatib: It collapsed and Allah willing, so will this (The US) collapse.
