Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi, a member of the Houthi Supreme Political Council warned on a December 21, 2023, show on Mayadeen TV (Lebanon) that the Houthis would attack American maritime vessels. He added that they will attack any vessel that "confronts the Yemeni people." Al-Houthi stated that this includes oil tankers en route to Europe, and he added that the Europeans should prepare for a "harsh winter." He continued to say that Saudi Arabia would "not be immune" to Houthi retaliation if attacks against Yemen are carried out from within its borders.
Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi: "American vessels will be attacked. Any ship, whether merchant ship or other, that confronts the Yemeni people, will be attacked, no matter what country it belongs to. If the international shipping sector learns of an attack [on us], this would [automatically] mean that the oil carried by these ships to Europe will be stopped. We would be saying to the Europeans: Prepare for a harsh winter.
"Saudi Arabia is opposed to the missiles launched [from Yemen] against the plundering entity in the occupied Palestinian lands claiming that they violate its sovereignty. Therefore, any airplane or weapon that reaches us through Saudi airspace... Saudi Arabia would not be immune to [our] retaliation, because this would mean that it had opened its airspace for attacks against us, while preventing our aircrafts, and in some cases, our missiles, from reaching the plundering entity in the occupied lands."]
