Syrian Actor Duraid Lahham, Formerly Affiliated With The Al-Assad Regime: We Should Accept That Israel Exists, Any Talk Of 'Erasing' It Is Crazy; Perhaps My Great-Grandchildren Will Normalize Relations With Israel

Syrian actor Duraid Lahham, who was formerly affiliated with the Al-Assad regime and changed allegiance after he was ousted, said in an appearance on Al-Jazeera Network (Qatar) on January 4, 2025 that talk of erasing Israel is delusional and crazy. He added that the Arabs should accept Israel’s existence. Lahham continued to say that while he does not support normalization with Israel now, perhaps his great-grandchildren will do so. In January 2016, Lahham stated that Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has "holiness in his soul," and he pledged: “Long live Iran! Long live Syria!"

Duraid Lahham: "Israel is an existing country which is recognized by all the world's countries. Talking about erasing it is not only delusional, but also crazy. It's an existing country. It's over. We should accept it."

[...]

Interviewer: "So you support normalization. You think that the Arab countries should normalize their relations with Israel, and forget all the disputes."

Lahham: "No, I do not support normalization. Absolutely not. However, perhaps my great-grandchildren will normalize these relations. It's possible.

"Israel exists and is recognized by the whole world, so talking about throwing it into the sea is mere regurgitating."
