Syrian writer Dr. Kamal Al-Labwani said on a September 22, 2020 program on the Al-Jazeera Network (Qatar) that the Arab League and the Arab regimes are in their current state because they have been adhering to an ideology of resistance since 1948. He said that this false ideology has been used to oppress people, that it is self-destructive, that it has led to war crimes in the name of liberation, and that it has led to the deaths of Palestinians, Lebanese people, Iraqis, and Syrians. Dr. Al-Labwani also said that the disagreement amongst Arabs is good because it will lead to the reconstruction of the Arab mind. He added: "It is time to do away with this lie." Dr. Kamal Al-Labwani: "The Arab League reflects the condition of the Arab countries. The problem lies with the state of the Arab regimes and the Arab countries, and not with the [Arab] League. For seventy years, we lived according to the ideology of resistance. This ideology has culminated with the destruction of the Arab countries. Today, some [Arab] countries have begun to sober up from this ideology, which was used to justify the state of emergency, as well as the oppression and the tyranny.
"After 1948, [the Arab regimes] adopted a policy of 'no war, no peace.' They waged war against their own people, while making peace with Israel under the table. This false ideology is what has brought us to where we are today. Today, some [Arab] countries have begun to wake up and discover that this ideology is self-destructive, and we must abandon it. Some [Arab] countries began to turn towards the ideology of peace.
"At this point, there was disagreement among the Arabs, and therefore the [Arab] league was paralyzed. I believe that this is a healthy phenomenon, because this will lead to a reconstruction of the Arab mind, the Arab League, as well as the Arab regimes, based on different foundations, the most important of which is eliminating the dogmatic mentality that has brought about tragedy, failed states, the displacement of peoples – first and foremost the Palestinians.
"War crimes have been committed in the name of resistance and liberation. Anyone demanding freedom was accused of being an Israeli collaborator or whatever. Iran came and occupied Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon. The Syrian people have been driven out and slaughtered. The Lebanese people have been slaughtered. All this was done in the name of the resistance, while Israel has been living in peace and security. So it is time that we do away with this lie."
