Head of Hamas in Sidon, Lebanon, Ayman Shanaa said on a November 2, 2023 show on LBC TV (Lebanon) that there is a high price to pay for resistance, and the Palestinians are willing to pay it. He continued to say that the Zionists were carrying out a "blatant attack on civilians," and therefore the world should stop them. Shanaa stated that Hamas is defending its land and on October 7 they exercised their "legitimate right" to resist and liberate their lands. He claimed that Hamas had not targeted women and children on October 7, that all the "settlers" in the Gaza Envelope were combatants, and that Hamas treats the women and children it is holding in Gaza "humanely."
Shanaa: "Let us examine history. Let us look at Algeria, Vietnam, and other countries that we liberated. How many did they sacrifice? Millions of martyrs. Therefore, I am saying that there is a high price to pay on the path of resistance, and we will bear this price. Our Palestinian people have been the target of these massacres. There are more than 10,000 martyrs, yet we have not heard a single mother burying her child, and protesting the presence of the resistance in the Gaza Strip.

"Our people are not disgruntled. We are willing to pay the price, but the world should put an end to these Zionist massacres, because this is not an honorable way. It is a blatant attack on civilians, in violation of all the international covenants and human rights laws. As a resistance movement, we consider what we are doing to be defense of our land. What we did on October 7 was [to exercise] the legitimate right of the resistance on its path to liberate its land, and we are willing to pay the price in full.

"The Al-Qassam Brigades did not kill civilians."
Reporter: "What about the dead civilians we saw?"
Shanaa: "Al-Qassam Brigades moved in and there is footage released by the Al-Qassam Brigades showing how [well] they treated the civilians in their homes. For us, killing women and children is haram. As for the men – they are occupiers of my land. I do not want to get into the discussion who is a civilian and who is a combatant, but any person occupying my land is a combatant, not a civilian.

"All the settlers in the Gaza Envelope are armed, so they are all combatants. [On October 7], we protected the women and children, and some of them were released. As for those held in the Gaza Strip, they are being treated humanely.

"Unfortunately, we were sent [aid] trucks full of shrouds. Honestly, this is… They sent trucks full of shrouds for the dead."
Reporter: "Do you mean the aid trucks?"
Shanaa: "Yes, some of them had aid, and many had shrouds. Our Palestinian people do not need shrouds."
