Iranian Hackers Bypass Gmail Security To Target Political Dissidents

A new report by Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto has demonstrated how Iranian hackers bypass Gmail's two-step verification system in order to penetrate accounts. Along with political dissidents, the hackers have also targeted other figures, such as Jillian York, director for International Freedom of Expression at the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF).

The attacks utilize text message and phone-based phishing attacks to fool users into providing their login information to a fake webpage, thus granting hackers access to their accounts.
