A Syrian opposition media outlet reported that about 50 Houthi fighters were dispatched from Iraq to Syria's southeast under the protection of Iran-backed militias and the Syrian Army.
On September 10, 2024, the media outlet, Eye of the Euphrates, published an article titled "Albukamal: Dozens of Agents of the Houthi Militias Arrive from Iraq." In it, the outlet reported that about 50 Houthi fighters transited from Iraq into Syria on September 8 via the Albukamal border crossing, which is controlled by Iran.
According to one of the outlet's correspondents, the fighters were transported into Syria on buses "designated for transporting sectarian tourists," which travelled under the protection of Iran-backed militias. From Albukamal, the correspondent said, the fighters were again transferred under camouflage in buses belonging to the 17th and 4th divisions of the Syrian Army to southern regions of Syria.
"The majority of the arriving Houthi militia fighters are specialists in the use of drones and missiles," the correspondent noted.
