On October 10, 2024, a pro-Islamic State (ISIS) outlet reported that the Wayback Machine website, which hosts the Internet Archive – often used by jihadis to upload jihadi material – has been hacked, and that 31 million unique IP addresses of users were leaked. The hackers reportedly discovered the email addresses, names, and passwords of the users.
On October 21, users of the Al-Qaeda-operated Rocket.Chat server celebrated the Internet Archive's return to activity.
