China's Taiwan Affairs Office Spokesman Ma Xiaoguang said in an April 13, 2022 statement that was posted on the YouTube channel of the state-run CGTN outlet that any economic framework joined by Taiwan must be in accordance with the One-China principle. He also said that China opposes Taiwan's participation in the economic framework suggested by the United States' Indo-Pacific Strategy, which he said is an attempt to "contain" China by forming a "clique" of Asian countries. He also said that the Taiwanese DPP authorities' attempts to "squeeze in" to this clique exposes their "nature of seeking independence by leaning on the U.S. and provoking the mainland."

Ma Xiaoguang: "Whichever economic framework the Taiwan region wants to join, the precondition is that it must be in line with the one-China principle. We oppose the region's participation in any official economic and trade arrangement. We oppose the region's participation in any official or its accession to any official economic and trade agreement. As for the U.S. government's hyping up of the Indo-Pacific concept and so-called Indo-Pacific strategy, it is in essence an attempt to contain China by forming a clique with countries in the region. The DPP authorities' attempt to squeeze into such a clique fully exposes their nature of seeking independence by leaning on the U.S. and provoking the mainland."
