Egyptian intellectual Hassan Al-Bana said on a November 16, 2023 show on Al-Manar TV (Hizbullah-Lebanon) that the Jews financed the Crusades. He claimed that when the Crusaders receded from Jerusalem, the Jews demanded their money back and the Crusaders killed 10,000 Jews near the Danube. Al-Bana said that today the "new Jews" are fighting the Muslims over Jerusalem "with the Crusaders behind them – which today are the Christian Zionists."
Hassan Al-Bana: "In the history of the conflict between the West and us, the fall of Al-Andalus constituted a stab in our western flank. The capture of Baghdad by the Mongols constituted a stab in our eastern flank. But the fall of Jerusalem in the days of Pope Urban – who said that milk and honey flow in it – was a stab in the heart. This is the point that I would like to clarify to the Arab world. The Jews were behind the Crusader wars. Oh Arabs, understand how things stand. Who supported the Crusader wars with money?"
Interviewer: "But today, the resistance has overcome..."
Al-Bana: "No, it isn't."
Interviewer: "The resistance has overcome the fall [of Jerusalem] that you mentioned, and it has raised the banner of restoring the rights, and defending Jerusalem and Palestine."
Al-Bana: "You spoke about challenge. Here is the challenge – it has been going on since the days of Pope Urban and the Crusader wars, because the Jews supported the Crusader wars with money. When the Crusader wars receded, the Jews demanded their money back, and so [the Crusaders] killed 10,000 Jews near the Danube. Today, those who are fighting us are the new Jews, with the Crusaders behind them – which today are the Christian Zionists."
