Egyptian writer Farida El-Choubachy said in a November 5, 2020 interview on Ten TV (Egypt) that the Nasser era had been the most beautiful period in the history of the Egyptian people. She also said that Nasser had made a mistake by appointing Anwar Sadat as his vice president. For more about Farida El-Choubachi, see MEMRI TV clips No. 6408, 3465, and 398.

Interviewer: "Do you idolize [Gamal] Abdel Nasser?"

Farida El-Choubachy: "Yes, I idolize him for a lot of reasons. For example..."

Interviewer: "Did he not make mistakes?"

El-Choubachy: "He made a mistake by bringing Anwar Sadat to be his vice president. I wrote about it..."

Interviewer: "Anwar Sadat, the hero of the [Suez Canal] crossing?"

El-Choubachy: "The heroes of the crossing were us and our army."

Interviewer: "Let's go back to the era of President Abdel Nasser..."

El-Choubachy: "Have you ever seen such a warm welcome, in any Arab country, like the one Abdel Nasser received? Have you ever seen or heard, even in the foreign media, of such a funeral like the funeral of Abdel Nasser? It is said that it was the largest funeral in history."

[...]

Interviewer: "The intervention in Yemen...

El-Choubachy:  "You call this intervention?"

Interviewer: "Well of course... The intervention in Yemen... He sent forces..."

El-Choubachy: "Wasn't it that they started a revolution and asked for his help? Just like Algeria and everyone else."

Interviewer: Very well. I am talking about the heavy price that the Egyptian people paid in the era of President Abdel Nasser."

El-Choubachy: "The Nasserist era was one of the most beautiful periods in history of the Egyptian people. We would take our passport and in any country we went to, people would salute us."
