Indian Defense Analyst Major Gaurav Arya: The West Employs A 'China Plus One' Policy Because China Has Turned Into A Monster

On July 25, 2024, the Chanakya Dialogues YouTube channel published a video in which Indian defense analyst Major Gaurav Arya said that the West employs a "China Plus One" policy because the "docile" China it was familiar with has turned into a "monster" and an expansionist "juggernaut." He gave the example of how a large proportion of iPhone manufacturing has been moved from China to India, which he said China does not like "one bit."

Major Gaurav Arya: "Essentially China works like the mafia. You can join the mafia, but you don't leave the mafia. Right? Now with this I'd like to give you the example of Apple phones. Now the iPhone was earlier made in the U.S. and in China mostly. Mostly China made it. Now a significant portion of iPhone manufacturing has shifted to India. China does like it. It does not like it one bit. They don't understand this entire policy of China Plus One.

"What is China Plus One? China Plus One essentially is the West's policy in which they say, 'Let us hedge our bets. We are uncomfortable with this… juggernaut called China. China that is so presently aggressive. China that wants to attack people and take over their territory. We did not think on our wildest dreams that the docile China that we partnered with, more than four decades back, would turn into this monster.'"
