In a special edition of Russia 1's flagship "Sunday Evening Talk Show" following the terror attack in Nice, "National Security Magazine" Editor-in-Chief Col. (Ret.) Igor Korotchenko said that NATO bears the moral responsibility for the Nice attack. The program aired on July 16, 2016.
Following are excerpts
Igor Korotchenko: Fighting international terrorism has been of low priority [for the West], even though Russian representatives said to their NATO counterparts, before and after the NATO summit and during the NATO-Russia Council meeting: "Guys, the main threat today is international terrorism. This is a global threat. We need to coordinate our actions in Syria and Iraq. Our special security services need to cooperate in order to keep the anti-terror mutual communication channels open.
Finally, we have to tackle issues of immigration and internal security." We were ready to discuss this, and we suggested to our Western partners that we discuss terrorism as the main international threat. We were just brushed off...
The result was that the entire European security system was confronting the non-existent, imaginary threat from Russia. That is why, whether we like it or not, we have to say that NATO bears the moral responsibility for the attack in Nice. I reiterate: It bears the moral responsibility. Stoltenberg and Obama also bear this responsibility, since they talked a lot about the Russian threat, but kept silent about the main threat.
