Following are excerpts from a lesson delivered by London-based Shiite cleric Yasser Al-Habib, which aired on Fadak TV on June 5, 2012.
Yasser Al-Habib: When Palestine was conquered, Omar Ibn Al-Khattab rode there on his donkey. Their historians say that Omar arrived, entered the church, and prayed in it. It is said that the people of that church drew the image of Omar on one of the walls. Indeed, his image was found on one of the walls.
It is a very ugly image indeed. The man has a very long beard, down to his belly-button, more or less. He is very ugly. This image exists.
Member of audience: As ugly as Saddam [Hussein]?
Yasser Al-Habib: Saddam was handsome, brother. Why be unfair? Saddam had a handsome face, especially in his youth. His deeds were ugly, but he looked normal.
In Omar’s case, his face was ugly. Even the Sunnis themselves, in their writings, say that he was so ugly that if a pregnant woman met him on the road, she would have a miscarriage. She could not stand his ugliness.
Member of audience: Did this really happen?
Yasser Al-Habib: Yes, it did. A woman happened to meet Omar on the road, and she had a miscarriage. If a woman saw Omar, she would have a miscarriage.
This automatically makes one think of Fatima. Women miscarried just from looking at that lowlife, and he attacked Fatima. All the abominations and bad qualities were combined in Omar.
