In an October 18, 2024, lecture at the Islamic Society of Central Jersey, American Islamic scholar Suhaib Webb stated that student activism can go “hand in hand” with Islamic practice. He praised Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and other student groups for inviting imams to lead prayers at their encampments. Webb highlighted that imams like Imam Farhan Siddiqi of Dar Al-Hijra Islamic Center in Falls Church, Virginia, along with other imams from Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, regularly visited these encampments to lead prayers and offer Islamic lessons. He commended these imams for their fearlessness in asserting that Zionism is equivalent to white supremacy, and that being a Zionist is no different from being a member of the Ku Klux Klan. The lecture was streamed live on ICSJ-TV on YouTube.
Suhaib Webb: "I was so happy this year with SJP and student organizations in Washington DC. They would constantly call imams and say: 'come, lead the evening prayer.' They did not allow activism to be an excuse not to be obedient to Allah. They saw them as going hand in hand.

"[I] was so happy that the imams in the DMV area – Imam Farhan [Siddiqi] and others – organized with student activists a whole year to make sure that almost every night there was a sheikh there in the encampment, leading the evening prayer, giving Islamic lessons, reminding people about Allah, and practicing an Islamic theology that is not scared to talk about the heroes of Palestine and the she-roes of Palestine, and that we demand Palestinian liberation, and we demand people keep their hands off Lebanon, and we demand that Zionism be located in the same vein as white supremacy. To be a Zionist, President Biden, is to be a member of the KKK."
