Following are excerpts from a TV report on members of the Free Syrian Army in the Idlib area, which aired on the Al-Jazeera network on January 9, 2012:
Reporter: The demonstrators took to the streets, and about 200 soldiers of the Free Syrian Army deployed on nearby rooftops, in order to protect them. These soldiers will be targeted even before the demonstrators, if the Syrian security forces arrive on the scene. Therefore, they keep an eye on the village's entrances and exits.
They say that thousands of civilians have joined the armed struggle, in support of the Free Syrian Army. As for weapons supply, it is no longer a problem, since there is an abundance of smuggled weapons on the one hand, and weapons can be easily bought from corrupt Syrian officers on the other hand.
This man shows us an anti-tank missile, and he has no idea how to use it.
Member of Free Syrian Army: They brought it in order to shell us, but we took it from them… We have about 60 missiles and about 50,000 bullets…
Reporter: The demonstration ended peacefully, and the demonstrators returned to their homes.
The next day the army came to the village, and took control over it after a fierce battle. According to activists, over 100 members of the Free Syrian Army were killed, while the number of casualties in the regular army remains unknown.
