U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen said in a American Chamber of Commerce in China speech she delivered in Guangzhou, China and that was posted online by CCTV [China] on April 6, 2024 that China and the U.S. have strong economic ties, that China is a huge market for American manufacturers and businesses, and that she and President Biden reject the idea of American "decoupling" from China economically.
Janet Yellen: “Today, Guangzhou remains the top destination for foreign investment in China, including from Fortune Global 500 companies. It’s a fitting place for me to emphasize the strong economic ties between the United States and China. With a large and growing middle class, China represents a huge market for American manufacturers and other firms. President Biden and I firmly reject the idea that the United States should decouple from China. A full economic separation is neither practical nor desirable.”
