Imam Shaker Elsayed of the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center, a Fairfax, VA mosque known for its links to high-profile terrorists, said in a Friday, October 2, 2020 sermon that was posted on the mosque's YouTube channel that in order to prevent the Muslims from uniting, Islam's enemies malign the terms "caliphate" and "caliph," and have even gone so far as to "artificially manufacture" entire organizations meant to push Muslims away from the idea of a caliphate. He argued that Muslims should establish a caliphate because in their current state of disunity they are weak and fragmented and have only themselves to blame for it.
Predicting that the media will say that his grievances may lead to terrorism, Imam Elsayed says that he does not care what "the enemies of the Quran and the enemies of Allah" say or think about him. Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center is linked to former Al-Qaeda leader Anwar Al-Awlaki, to some of the 9/11 terrorists, to Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan, and to other known Jihadis. Shaker Elsayed: "Every one of our ummah's enemies never want us to unite. So what do they do? They malign the word khalifa and the word khilafa. They make them look like a taboo. And they artificially manufacture a whole group to master this maligning of this word, so that our ummah, including the Islamists, they would say, 'No, we don't want to do khilafa.'

"So they have the right to give themselves to set up the United States of America, right? The European Union, in which they admit whom they like and they kick out whom they like, but we do not have the right to establish our own united ummah.
[...]
"The wise Muslim, whatever the shaitan [devil] whispers to them 'do something,' what do they do? They do the opposite. This is what our ummah needs to do. There is no power in disunity.

"And this is what we get, an ummah that is weak, fragmented, exploited, and there is no condolence for somebody who kills himself with his own hands.

"The media will tell you, 'this Sheikh is arousing grievances, and grievances lead to terrorism.' I want to tell you this, I'm speaking truth where it matters most. Whether my enemies call it inciting or enticing or anything else, I do not really care what the enemies of the Quran and the enemies of Allah would say about me."
