Church Pressure Leads to Removal of Iranian TV Series on Jesus Christ from Lebanese NBN and Al-Manar TV

#2592 | 01:57
Source: LBC (Lebanon)

Following are excerpts from a report on Lebanese Shiite TV channels removing a TV series following Christian pressure, which aired on LBC TV on August 14, 2010:

Excerpt from series:

Disciple: You are Jesus, the son of the Virgin Mary.

Jesus: My Lord, hear the call of your humble and wretched servant, and bestow upon us your plentiful bounty. Amen.

Reporter: The pressure exerted by the Church managed to stop the airing of a series about Jesus Christ on NBN and Al-Manar TV. This is an Iranian TV series dubbed in Arabic. The Church in Lebanon considered it to contain essential errors, pertaining to the nature of Christ in the Christian religion.

People spontaneously gathered at the Catholic Media Center, when they heard about a press conference held by Archbishop Bishara Raii, demanding to stop the broadcasting of the series. Archbishop Raii was joined by other clergymen who were conducting talks in an effort to reach a decision to stop the series prior to the press conference.

Indeed, these talks were successful, and Archbishop Raii was informed by the General Security Agency that the two TV channels would stop broadcasting the series. The decision was also announced by Information Minister Tarek Mitri, who also attended the Catholic Media Center, as did MP Nadim Gemayel.

Lebanese Archbishop Bishara Raii: The events described in this film are incorrect and incomplete. This is an affront to the honor of the divine revelation, of Christ, of the church, and of Christianity. We wrote these things, and we are pleased that this was taken into consideration.
