Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib discussed the deadly attack on Majdal Shams, in northern Israel, in which 12 Druze children were killed, in a July 28, 2024 interview on Al-Arabiya Network (Saudi Arabia), saying he doesn't know who was behind the attack and that Hizbullah has denied that it was responsible for it. When the interviewer suggested that the attack could have been orchestrated by Israel in order to justify an attack against Lebanon, he said that this is plausible. Habib said that it is possible that either Israel or Hizbullah could have been responsible for the attack "by mistake." He stated that if the war were to expand beyond its current scope, the Lebanese state would stand by Hizbullah, and Hizbullah would stand by the Lebanese state against Israel.

Adballah Bou Habib: "The [children] who died... who were killed in the Golan were Arab, not Israelis. In addition, the Golan Heights, is not Israeli. They took it, but the UN does not recognize the Golan Heights as Israeli. It is Syrian. Therefore, [Israel] does not have any justification for self-defense. Nobody attacked it. I do not know who carried out the attack. Hizbullah has denied doing it. Israel is claiming that Hizbullah did it. Maybe Israel did it by mistake. Maybe Hizbullah did it by mistake. Hizbullah does not attack civilians in Israel, so why would it attack civilians in Syria?"

Interviewer: "Is it possible that Israel orchestrated this incident, in order to justify an attack against Lebanon?"

Habib: "It is possible. I do not know.

"If a war breaks out, we will undoubtedly be against Israel. If the war in Lebanon expands beyond its present scope, we will stand by Hizbullah against... Hizbullah will stand by us and we will stand by Hizbullah. We will stand together against Israel."

Interviewer: "So the Lebanese army will join Hizbullah against Israel. There will be a war between Lebanon as a state, and Israel..."

Habib: "We do not have significant military capabilities, but Lebanon will officially stand by... Or rather, Hizbullah will stand by the Lebanese state, and we will defend Lebanon."
